We are conducting a resting EEG experiment on three-year old children. We are interested in whether there are neurophysiological correlates related to temperament in three year-old children. Specifically, we are interested in whether the same hemispheric asymmetries are found in children who are low in positive affect as are found in both depressed adults and in infants of depressed mothers. Related to this, we are interested in determining if these asymmetries are related to the later development of depression. Contingent on funding, we will also be examining the stability of brain activation in the alpha frequency over the life span and its relationship to the development of depression.
