SuperLab 4.5 adds support for StimTracker and replaces the licensing mechanism found in earlier versions with a new one that was developed in-house.  SuperLab for Mac and SuperLab for Windows are now one product. You can use your license on either platform.  Got several licenses? You can now issue "leases" to students or colleagues. When the leases expire, e.g. at the end of the semester, the licenses are automatically returned to you and are ready to be reused.  You can now activate a computer temporarily, e.g. when visiting a colleague's lab or using a computer that you expect you won't have access to later on.  The license file is no longer hidden. It can be backed up or ghosted.
A reformatted hard drive or reinstalled OS will no longer cause problems for your IT staff.  This release also fixes some bugs. It is a free update to all SuperLab 4 users.

Cortech Solutions, US partner of Austrian g.tec Medical Engineering, today announced the finalists in the company’s Annual Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Research competition. This year’s competition is especially timely, since it provides a preview of some of the leading research groups in the field just as rumors circulate about the X Prize Foundation’s plan to announce an X Prize competition to “ignite a Brain-Computer Interface Revolution”.

For more than 20 years researchers all over the world have been working on the development of a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). This is a direct communication channel between the brain and a computer. Such a system enables virtually anyone, including completely paralyzed people, to communicate or to control devices in their environment just by mental activity. In the past, patients have been supervised by the research scientists to use such BCI systems in daily life. Cortech Solutions is cooperating with the Austrian company g.tec medical engineering GmbH, to bring the first consumer-ready BCI for communication and smart-home control to the US market. The EEG-based spelling system is called intendiX and enables the user to select keys or symbols displayed on a computer screen from a matrix just by paying attention to a target symbol on the screen.
