EMSE v 5.2 Release Available

In addition to several usability enhancements, EMSE 5.2 contains many new features. Data Editor has improvements especially related to ERP/F functionality, including one-click single-channel display, batch averaging, peak detection and compressed trial array; Epilepsy analysis tools such as automated interictal spike detection; Functional connectivity tools include Dynamic Imaging of Coherent Sources (DICS); and many new file formats are supported, such as Nicolet BNI, Neuroconn, Plexon, Neuromag and 4D dipole files. MR Viewer now features automatic brightness control and cortex map data display; Locator has USB support for the Polhemus PATRIOT digitizer.

To download a trial version of the the software, visit the EMSE download page.  Please be sure to mention that we sent you!

Data editor enhancements, especially ERP/F functionality

  • Compressed trial array, an interactive tool that facilitates visual inspection and correction of trials and channels
  • Batch averaging, which permits the user automatically to train the software on averaging procedures while exploring the data, then apply the training to additional datasets
  • Peak detection, which may be used to automate the export of features such as latency and amplitude to be used for e.g., ANOVA analysis.
  • Additional mouse button functionality (including one-click channel interpolation and one-click single channel display)
  • FIR filters (compared with IIR filters, FIR filters can stably approach arbitrarily sharp cutoffs at the cost of slower computation; also may be applied to entire continuous datasets without memory limitations)
  • Phase-locked SNR filtering (a method for spatially cleaning event-related data by preserving only those components such that phase-locked activity exceeds residual non-phase-locked activity)

New file formats supported

  • Nicolet BNI reader
  • Neuroconn NEURO PRAX reader
  • Plexon PLX reader
  • EMSE metafile format (permits multiple continuous files to be treated as if one large file; also permits multiple projects to share the same target data while employing different filters and preferences; target data may exist on a read-only drive so long as the metafile exists on a writable drive) (read/ write)
  • Neuromag FIFF format (time series reader only)
  • 4D Neuroimaging dipole files (version 1 format), read/write

Epilepsy analysis tools

  • Automatic Spike Recognition (ASpiRe) for interictal spike detection/localization

Source estimation tools

  • RAP Music dipole fitting

Functional connectivity tools

  • Dynamic Imaging of Coherent Sources (DICS) , a new tools for source space connectivity analysis

  • Wavelet-based time-frequency phase synchrony estimation in signal space or source space

Locator improvements

  • USB support for Polhemus Patriot digitizer

Hypothesis testing

  • Frequency domain permutation tests in signal space

  • Whole map (as opposed to single site) tests

MR Viewer

  • Histogram equalization automatic brightness control

  • Cortex map data display

USB hardlock (for license management)

You will need a current license or a trial code to run all the features of the new software. If your subscription is current, you can update your dongle for v5.2 by following the link in the ReadMe file, which will be displayed automatically after the software is installed.  Contact us if you have any questions regarding the status of a license you already own.
