Electroencephalography and event-related potentials

A variety of specialized lines of research require highly flexible EEG data acquisition and signal processing tools and unique accessory items.  EEG provides an objective measure of brain activity that has excellent temporal resolution and better spatial resolution than most people imagined possible just a few years ago.  We offer a variety of data acquisition, signal processing, stimulus delivery, consumable products and other accessories to meet a wide variety of research needs.

Data acquisition systems

ActiveTwo

Multi-modal data acquisition system with active electrodes

ActiveTwo is a powerful new high-resolution biosignal acquisition system that incorporates some revolutionary concepts.  Active electrode technology is just one of the significant innovations in the ActiveTwo system.  By placing active electronics within millimeters of the actual electrode contact, ActiveTwo virtually eliminates the need to prepare the scalp before applying electrodes.  This can cut measurement preparation time by an estimated 15 -30 minutes for most laboratories!

ActiveTwo can also be equipped with additional sensors for respiration, skin conductance, temperature, plethysmograph (pulse) and other parameters.  An optional isolated analog input box makes it possible to acquire almost any type of signal synchronously with the signals sampled by the ActiveTwo A/D box.

As an added benefit, ActiveTwo comes with powerful data acquisition software developed in National Instruments' LabView.  We provide the compiled software so you do not need to own LabView, and you do not need to be a programmer to operate the system.  For those laboratories with programming resources, the source code is provided so that you can add any special features that you may need.

BESA has been developed on the basis of 18 years experience in human brain research by Michael Scherg, University of Heidelberg, and Patrick Berg, University of Konstanz. BESA is a highly versatile and user-friendly Windows® program with optimized tools and scripts to preprocess raw or averaged data for source analysis. All important aspects of source analysis are displayed in one window for immediate selection of a wide range of tools. BESA provides a variety of source analysis algorithms, a standardized realistic head model (FEM), and allows for fast and easy hypothesis testing and integration with MRI and fMRI.

EMSE Suite

Modular biosignal analysis and multimodal integration suite

EMSE Suite 5.1 is a superb, modular solution for the full range of EEG / MEG and multimodal neuroimaging applications, and the capabilities of the software lend themselves to analysis of ECG / BSPM data as well.  EMSE Suite includes a set of powerful tools for source localization and combination of biosignal results with other imaging modalities, such as MRI, CT, fMRI and PET.  EMSE's modular architecture allows modules to operate independently or as a tightly-integrated suite.

g.BSanalyze

Multi-modal off-line biosignal analysis under MATLAB

(PREREQUISITE: MATLAB 6.5, Signal Processing Toolbox !)

g.BSanalyze - gtec's Biosignal Analysis software is an interactive environment for multimodal biosignal data processing and analysis in the fields of clinical research and life sciences.  The investigation of patterns and signal features of biosignals allows to observe non-invasively brain, heart- and muscle functions and dysfunctions.

Electrode localization

Locator

Convenient 3D position measurement software

When used together with Fastrak or Patriot digitizing hardware, Locator allows you to measure accurately landmarks, electrode locations and external head/body shape in 3 dimensions. These data may then be used for coregistration of surface measured potentials with anatomical / functional image data and to improve the precision of mapping and source estimation.

Patriot

Accurate, inexpensive 3D position measurement

Finally, a solution for 3D electrode localization that everyone can afford - Patriot!

It's smaller, lighter, more compact and less expensive than previous models, yet the Patriot sports accuracy and resolution that are well matched to the task of electrode position measurement.

Best of all, Patriot, when coupled with the Locator software, is a very fast way to measure electrode positions.  Consider this -- your total time commitment for electrode position measurement is approximately 2 seconds per electrode (roughly 2 minutes for 64 channels or 4 1/2 minutes for 128 channels.

Fastrak

Fast, accurate 3D position measurement and motion tracking

The Fastrak 3D Digitizer is the most accurate electromagnetic tracking system available, and it is the perfect solution for localization of electrodes and body landmarks in preparation for the coregistration of surface measured potentials with anatomical/functional images in EMSE Suite or BESA.  Fastrak is controlled by the Locator software, which acquires and displays 3D position measurements for electrodes, fiducial landmarks and other points on the body surface.

Stimulation

Presentation

High-precision program for stimulus delivery and experimental control

Presentation is Windows 98/ME/2000/XP compatible, yet it provides sub-millisecond temporal precision and complete timing information for all stimulus and response events.  It operates on standard PC hardware, and handles multiple tasks including simultaneous video and auditory stimulus delivery, responses and interrupt registration, trigger input/output, etc.  The software is fully adaptive and easy to program.  Presentation is optimized for behavioral and physiological experiments using fMRI/ERP/MEG and single neuron recording.  Presentation development has been generously supported by NINDS.

SuperLab

Experimental lab software

SuperLab is a superb Windows- and Mac-based software application for stimulation and activation.  SuperLab is one of the the most widely-used computerized stimulation tools available.  SuperLab can display color graphics of your choice, play digital audio or video files and send event triggers to external devices such as other types of stimulators.  The software supports a variety of subject input devices, including RB-Series Reponse Pads, voice response device or keyboard.  SuperLab also incorporates precise mechanisms for triggering data acquisition systems for EEG / MEG studies.  The collected reaction time and response accuracy data are saved in text files which can be imported easily into spreadsheet, statistics and signal analysis software.  SuperLab Pro is the easiest stimulation software to use, bar none. The tutorial chapter in the manual helps new users come up to speed in less than an hour.

g.STIMunit

Manual response devices

For ERP and behavioral testing applications

We offer a variety of manual response pads that are compatible with both SuperLabPresentation and a variety of other commercial/freeware stimulus delivery software programs.  These response boxes use a state of the art, low-power microcontroller to detect button presses, encode them, and send them to the serial port.  Switch debouncing is performed by the microcontroller, guaranteeing that each button-press produces only one signal.

Voice response device

Measure vocal reaction time precisely

SV-1 is a device designed specifically for experiments requiring a vocal response. SV-1 monitors the participant's voice level at all times, and when the level rises above a user-specified threshold, it reports this to the computer.  The first such device to be developed for over a decade, SV-1 packs some advanced features.
