The standard power
supply of the A/D interface and the active electrodes utilizes a
high-capacity battery. The battery power supply contains a lead-acid battery
and a shutdown circuit to prevent the battery from deep discharge. The
combination of a high-capacity battery and very low power consumption of the
A/D interface and active electrodes makes the ActiveTwo the only truly
battery powered, high-resolution EEG / ERP system. In the 256 channel
version, battery life is at least 5 hours. Fewer channels offer
extended battery life -- up to 3 days for a 16 channel version. Given
the charge time of less than 4 hours, continuous measurements are possible with
the 2 standard batteries provided with the system. The battery can be
changed in less than 10 seconds without interrupting system operation.A sophisticated charger
is supplied with the system to allow quick charging of the battery when used
in cyclic applications. The special sealed lead-acid batteries that are used
in the battery-box can be charged very quickly with the specially designed
charging circuit -- full charging of an empty battery takes about 3½ hours.
The charger automatically switches to a float state when the battery is
fully charged, and the battery can be left on the charger for unlimited time
without any reduction of the operation life. A battery life of approximately
1000 recharge cycles can be expected. The charger comes complete with an
"all-world" mains adapter with replaceable AC adapter plug to adapt to the
different AC voltages and outlets in Europe, USA, UK and Asia
