The Optical Receiver (aka USB 2.0 Interface) converts the incoming fiber optic data to a stream of 32-bit words and sends it to the PC via a USB 2.0 port.  The data words are buffered in a FIFO (first in, first out) memory with a capacity of 64 kWords, ensuring the data are transferred reliably to the PC.  The FIFO buffer is ample to ensure sustained data acquisition with interrupt latency times found under Windows XP.

A 37-pin connector with 16 inputs and 16 outputs for trigger signals (TTL level) is available on the back panel of the receiver.  The incoming trigger signals are mixed with the incoming data from the amplifier.  The trigger inputs allow easy setup of EP / ERP measurements, and event logging.  The triggers inputs are kept completely isolated from the front-end (no interference with electrode signals).  The method of digital triggers has the most precise timing (within 1 sample).  The triggers are digitally stored in a separate trigger channel, which is readily recognized by analysis programs.

Key Benefits

Here are some of the benefits of the unique Optical Receiver design:

  • Makes ActiveTwo completely portable when used with a notebook computer.
  • Programmable logic allows easy changing of number of channels and sample rate.
  • Trigger inputs remain galvanically isolated from AD-box, electrodes and patient.
  • Easy power supply from PC via digital I/O card or USB 2.0 port.
  • LED indicators for data and FIFO overflow.
  • Compatible with Windows XP.

Another version of the optical receiver that works with a National Instruments PCI DIO-32HS high-speed parallel I/O card is available for customers who specifically request it.  This alternate version is compatible with Windows 98 SE/NT/2000/XP.
